OM BHUR BHUVAHA SWAHA OM TAT SAVITUR VARENYAM BHARGHO DEVASYA DHIMAHI DHIYO YONAHA PRACHODAYAT




Meaning of Gayatri Mantra:



There are many interpretation of the Gayatri Mantra by different scholars. Few of them are as given below:



I invoke the Earth Plane (Bhur), The Astral Plane (Bhuvaha), The Celestial Plane (SWAHA), The Plane of Spiritual Balance (TAT), The Plane of Human Spiritual Knowledge (Savitur), The Plane of Spiritual Austerites (Varenyam), and The Plane of Ultimate Truth (Bhargo). Oh, great Spiritual Light which is the brilliance of all Divinity, we meditate upon You. Please illumine our minds."



By Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati (Founder of  Arya Samaj) :



O God, You are the giver of life, the remover of pain & sorrow, the bestower of happiness; O Creator of the Universe, may we receive Your supreme sin-destroying light; may You guide our intellect in the right direction.



By Swami Vivekananda:



We meditate on the glory of that Being who has produced this universe; may He enlighten our minds.



By S.Radhakrishnan:



We meditate on the effulgent glory of the divine Light; may he inspire our understanding.



By The Brahm Samaj:



We meditate on the worship able power and glory of Him who has created the earth, the nether world and the heavens, and who directs our understanding.



By Common man's prayer:



Whoever produced me and the one recites this mantra, let Him save both of us from sinning against each other.



Meaning of each word:



OM:       Symbol of the Par Brahman Who Protects

Bhur:      Who is the base of all creation Bhu-Loka (Physical plane)

Bhuvah:  Who is free from all problems Antariksha-Loka (Astral plane)

Swah:     Who resides every where Swarga-Loka (Celestial plane)

Tat:        That Gods form we people

Savitur:   Who is the creator and giver of all material things

Varenyam: Fit to be worshiped or adored

Bhargo:    Remover of sins and ignorance; Glory Effulgence

Devasya: Who give all joys

Dheemahi: We meditate

Dhiyo:       Buddhis; Intellects; Understandings

Yo:          Who is supreme or Parmatma

Nah:         Our

Prachodayat: Do Inspire for good deeds
